Description
Max Pollak had settled in the Bay Area by the 1950s, and often traveled to Mexico and Guatemala during the holiday season. It is thought that this is an image of a girl participating in a Christmas or New Year parade, perhaps as part of the "La Posada" festivities. Hanging from her handmade tree are items of luck, such as symbolic money bags, a horseshoe, a fattened pig, and the figure of a man and a woman with a heart, signifying the hope of finding love.
