Description
Assateague refers to the barrier reef island off the East Coast of the United States, running parallel to the shores of both southern Maryland and northern Virginia in the Atlantic. It's flat profile and pale sands create idyllic sunsets and have been the inspiration for many artists. Wrote Walker of this image: "'Assateague I' and '-II' are among my earliest woodblock prints. They are based on drawings that I made on pine woodblocks at Assateague Island on the Atlantic Coast of Virginia and Maryland. The prints are hand printed by myself. I was still under the influence of my teacher, [printmaker] Seong Moy."
