Description
The magnolia stellata--or star magnolia-- is native to Japan, where it grows in boggy or marshy environments and feature shallow roots and delicate blossoms, making it difficult to cultivate. Of note in regards to Wagener's woodengraving technique is his exclusive use of single-line as opposed to multiple-line carving tools, meaning that each line, in its delicate uniformity, is carved individually.
