This art deco screenprint by Julio deDiego is on a paper bag, an advertisement for the Hotel Sherman laundry, to be used by guests for their laundry needs. Though not "editioned" this screenprint, created for commerce, is now rare.
The Hotel Sherman was a majestic, upscale hotel located at Clark and Randolph Street in Chicago. It was rebuilt over 5 times between 1837 and 1980, and was the famous site for a mob conference with Al Capone in 1926, which ended with the Hotel Sherman Treaty between the gangs and was attended by the police.
The site is now the State of Illinois' Thompson Center with the Dubuffet sculpture "Monument With Standing Beast" at the famous corner.
