This hand colored woocut by Montana artist James Todd is an homage to the great Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada (1852-1913) who may be best known for his "Calaveras", cavorting skeletons that came alive and mimicked every day life.
As the portrait of Posada stares directly into the viewer's eye while in the background an industrialist, a priest, a narcissist and three other calavaras peek over his shoulder.
Posada was one of the most productive illustrators ever, being credited with over 800 separate images. Since this impression is hand colored it is essentially unique, a monoprint, and is editioned 1/1.
