Description

Parishioners exit the front gate of the St. Francis Assisi Church in Ranchos de Taos, New Mexico. Kloss has illuminated the church with white light, contrasting the figures and the sky to create a subtle but dramatic composition, befitting the subject.

"Centuries Old" is illustrated on page 159 of the book 'Gene Kloss Etchings' by Gene and Phillips Kloss. On page 158 Phillips Kloss comments about this work:

"The Ranchos Church is a shrine for Catholics and Protestants alike. It has stood for two centuries and will stand for two centuries more, unless an atomic was destroys contemporary civilization and a new-world religon is formulated. It is a beautiful church.
