Description

Frieda Dean examines the effects of global warming on the oceans in this large-scale, energetic color lithograph. Incalescent - meaning growing hotter or more ardent - reflects the sense of chaos endemic to a rapidly changing environment. Borrowing from the powerful, ever changing movement of water, Dean’s imagery does not rely on representational or symbolic imagery to capture what often feels too large an issue to address; instead, she employs the more pliable genre of abstraction to express the multitudinous emotions, theories, and projections of an uncertain future.
