Elizabeth Norton did this color woodcut of fishing boats in San Francisco Bay. She added a "chop" of her initials "EN" in blue, beneath the image, much as Gustave Baumann had done with his "Hand in Heart" chop. She signed this impression in pencil, dated it "1926" numbered it "24/100" and annotated it "del." (drawn by), "sc." (engraved by) and "imp" (printed by), indicating that she did the whole process herself.
Norton prints the ink lightly on a thin, tissue-like paper, allowing the grain of the wood to show through and create a "shimmer" to the water and the sky. A fine example of her work in the medium.
