Description
To those of us who enjoy large beds of calla lilies (Zantedeschia aethiopica) each spring, it might come as a surprise to discover that this lily is native to southern Africa. The pearl white flower is highly decorative and unfurls to disclose its long yellow spadix. In some cultures, the calla lily represents fertility and abundance. The flowers make exquisite bridal bouquets and dramatic floral arrangements as seen in Augusta Rathbone's still life.
