Description
"The Print Shop" was first issued by Baumann in 1910. It was one of twelve color woodcuts from his portfolio, "In the Hills o' Brown," which depicted scenes of Nashville, Indiana, its environs, and its citizens. The twelve individual titles were listed on the inside back cover of the portfolio. Beneath the roster of titles was the acknowledgment: "Due credit is given the office of the Brown County Democrat for the use of their press and assistance in printing." In this scene, Lon Allison is in the background selecting type and his sons are in the foreground working the Washington Hand Press and the other holding a brayer used in inking the type.
