Description
Illustrated on page 411 of In a Modern Rendering: The Color Woodcuts of Gustave Baumann", this impression (cat. 160) is from the first edition. Two more altered editions (cats. 160.2 and 160.3) as well as a discarded set of earlier blocks explains Baumann's keen desire to properly capture the feeling of a scene. Chamberlain writes of "Winter Corral," 'Baumann found this graceful tree and rustic corral at Pojoaque Pueblo, north of Santa Fe.' (p. 413)
