Zena Kavin worked as a cartoonist and illustrator for the Saturday Evening Post, The New Yorker and Collier's, using the pseudonym "Corka. Her work was often satirical and Surrealist, adding her unique twist to her imagery, often anthropomorphizing her subject.
This lithograph, done around 1935 depicts an osprey, dressed as a harlequin, having caught a fish that is even more elaborately decorated. A surreal fantasy or perhaps, a political nightmare. Who the fisher and who the fish represent is now left to the viewers imagination.
