Description
This drawing was a study for a color monotype by Macky of a detail of A. Stirling Calder's Fountain of Energy at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. The drawing and monotype were shown together at the 1917 California Society of Etchers exhibition. The drawing is sold with the monotype, inventory number 7321, which was exhibited in the 1997 National Museum of American Art exhibition "Singular Impressions, the Monotype in America". it is illustrated in the “Singular Impressions” catalogue by Joann Moser, Smithsonian Press, 1997; figure 104, page 105.
