Ferdinand Julius Fohs (1884-1965), notable petroleum geologist, was born in New York. Fohs Hall in Marion, Kentucky was built in 1926 on the site of the house where he grew up. Fohs donated funds and gave the building to the city of Marion to be used as a community center.
