Description
Fred Becker used a combination of lucite engraving and color woodcut to create "Interruptions", probably as an experiment at Atelier 17 in New York where exploring new materials and methods was encourged. According to printmaker Gabor Peterdi "Lucite comes in crystal form and disolves in toluene of xylene - highly volatile solvents...add solvent slowly until the desired consistency is reached; the mixture should be thick enough to hold in relief. A thin mixture would run and eventually flatten out completely. The support can be anything from Masonite, woodblock, or Plexiglas to a strong paper...If the plastic is printed alone, the support should be rigid, but if it is to be applied on top of a plate and printed simultaneously or combined with a woodcut, the support should be as thin as possible. Once the Lucite has hardened, it can be cut and engraved like any other plastic."
