While in Europe Pollak did many portraits; artists, intellectuals, musicians, family, ordinary citizens, and a series of large drypoints of many of the dancers of the time.
Little information can currently be found about the silent film actress and dancer Isa Marsen, who was active from at least the 1910s through 1921. This image, a fetching portrait of the dancer in somewhat androgynous attire, is found throughout the print world but the subject's life remains a bit of a mystery.
This image was reproduced in April of 1922 in the German monthly publication Velhagen & Klasing's Montashefte with the title "Die Schauspielerin Isa Marsen als Bub / Farbige Radierung von Max Pollak" - "The Actress Isa Marsen as a Boy / Colored Etching by Max Pollak".
