Jindrich Pilacek was a Czech illustrator and ex libris artist whose work helped sustain that strand of Surrealism which has never quite expired in Eastern Europe.
With a whimsical tribute to the etched cityscapes and elegant portraits of his fellow countryman Wenceslaus Hollar (1607-1677) who did over 2,740 prints and drawings, and to Guiseppe Acimboldi (1527-1593) whose whimsical portraits created using vegetables and vegetation.
"Knight of Autumn"" is an etching that features a figure composed of leaves, holding an umbrella made with a larger leaf. The knight stands on a hill, overlooking a landscape with trees and numerous structures separated by a river.
