Description

Figurative etchings by Morgan Dennis are scarce, the bulk of his printmaking work was canine portraiture. His etchings of dogs were used in ads and he even designed the Scottish dogs for Black & White Scotch.

He shows his considerable etching abilities in this sensitive portrait of a woman in an elaborate shawl, standing at the foot of some steps of an ancient building. Dennis added a little green to the black ink which helps to create a warmth and luminosity to the composition.
