Description

Aida Whedon studied with both Thomas Hart Benton and Hans Hoffman. This untitled gouache and ink painting may have been inspired by of the portraits by Henri Matisse.

The subject is a portrait of a woman wearing a patterned blouse. Her face almost blends into the gray-green, textured background. The viewer is confronted with a somewhat chaotic design that pulls together upon reflection.

The work is adhered at the corners to a chipboard.
