Description

This early Surreal etching by Kurt Seligman was done in 1933. It is number 19 of 23 surrealist prints published in 1935 in Anatole Jakovski's '23 Gravures' which included intaglios by 23 different artists. The album was published by G. Orobitz as an edition of 50, 20 put on the market, numbered 1/50 - 20/50 and 30 reserved for contributors, numbered XXI/L - XXX/L. The typography was done by Ducos and Colos and Tanneur printed the etchings.

The 23 artists included: Arp, Calder, de Chirico, Erni, Ernst, Fernandez, Giacometti, Ghika, Gonzalez, Helion, Kandinsky, Leger, Lipchitz, Magnelli, Miro, Nicholson, Ozenfant, Picasso, Seligmann, Taeuber-Arp, Torres-Garcia, Vulliamy, Zadkine.

In 1937, Seligmann was accepted as a formal member of the Surrealist group in Paris by Andre Breton, who collected his work and included him in Surrealist exhibitions.
