Description

This image is from the specially printed, hand signed, limited edition of woodengravings that Landacre created to illustrate "California Hills and Other Wood Engravings," published in 1931 by Bruce McAllister, Los Angeles.

Paul Landacre created 15 woodengravings of dramatic monumental California scenery including Big Sur, Indio Mountains, Point Magu, Malibu Coast, Berkeley Stadium, San Bernadino Mountains, Monterey Hills and others. They were each done in editions of 50. The images were also printed from the blocks in an edition of 500, printed by Harold Young and bound into a book form. These prints were not signed.

The Malibu Coast is viewed from California Route 1, the Pacific Coast Highway, which follows the Pacific Ocean from the city of Malibu to Oxnard, a distance of 49 miles, 21 of which lead through the city of Malibu.
