Description
He spent his youth in Utah, moving to Fort Bragg, California in 1924. After moving to San Francisco after high school he studied art with Hilaire Hiler on a mural project in 1934 and at the California School of Fine Arts in 1934 and again between 1946-1948. He also studied with Jean Varda and printmaking with S.W. Hayter, which exposed him to surrealist ideas.
