Seymour Haden noted: "This plate and No. 20 (23 in Schneiderman) were done on the same day. One at noon - the other in the very late evening. The Test (in Hampshire) is a famous trout stream."
The river has a total length of 40 miles (64 km) and it flows through downland from its source near Ashe, 10 km to the west of Basingstoke, to the sea at the head of Southampton Water. In its upper reaches it is a chalk stream, known throughout the world for the excellent quality of its fly fishing for trout. This etching is near the town of Romsey, in Hampshire.
This impression was purchased from the Albert Roullier gallery in the early 20th century.
