Description

One of Pennell's atmospheric etchings of the River Thames in the twilight, it might be considered a companion to his "Tower Bridge, Evening (W.378).

The location is likely "St Saviour's Dock" a small dock on the south bank of the River Thames, London, 420 metres east of Tower Bridge which forms the eastern end of the picturesque and historic embankment that starts at Tower Bridge known as Shad Thames. The other side of the Dock is Jacob's Island.

This impression was printed by Pennell and sold through the Chicago gallery of Albert Roullier in the early 20th century.

This impression has the old Albert Roulllier gallery label as well as an old framing label from the Alexandria Studio
