Description

Costa Rica born Mexican printmaker Francisco Zuniga did his first lithographs at Editions Press in San Francisco in 1972, encouraged by his friend and Editions Press Master Printer Ernesto De Soto who worked with him through the whole process.

Throughout his life Zuinga's work emphasized the strong, powerful figure of the matriarchal woman of his cultural heritage. This color lithograph depicts two women, wrapped in rebozos, taking a quick siesta, a break from their workday. The bright sunlight, sneaking in from an unknown space, illuminates their shawls as they sleep.

"Dos Mujeres" is Zuniga's 7th lithograph, his 6th color lithograph. "Dos Mujeres...." was published by Editions Press in San Francsico in 1973. The edition was printed under the supervision of co-owner and Master Printer Ernesto DeSoto. It was printed by Voorhees Mount in a total edition of 129. This impression is from the published edition of 100. It bears the blindstamps of both Editions Press and Voorhees Mount.
