Description

Loren Conrad Holmwood, a painter, illustrator and pastelist was born in Puyallup, Washington on April 22, 1892. Holmwood began painting as a child and by the age of 15 was an accomplished artist. He and his three brothers were taught to play musical instruments by their father and traveled as a band playing for dances and proms. He joined the Navy in 1918, he played in the band and upon discharge he studied at the AIC. By the early 1930s he had settled in Laguna Beach into the former studio/home of Edgar Payne, where he painted portraits and did covers for Colliers, Country Gentlemen, Literary Digest, and others.

Holmwood died on March 9, 1985 in Laguna Beach, California.
