This portrait of Madame Ledieu was done by Isaby around 1820 and was printed chine-collé by C. Motte. This means that the image was printed on a thin sheet of cream "China" paper which allowed all the fine, delicate details to be printed. This paper was then collaged (glued) to a heavier, larger sheet of Ivory wove paper which gives it stability so it can be handled.
The impression has the red collector's stamp of Albert Marioni (Lugt 150b) in the lower left corner and also is from the estate of author, museum director and collector Michael Wentworth (1938-2002) who wrote the catalogue raisonné on James Tissot. His stamp is on the lower right (not in Lugt).
