Description
James Budd Dixon pulled this etching in 1948 and numbered it 3 from an unknown edition. Considering the time it is unlikely he pulled more than a few proof impressions, no more than 10. Later that year Dixon participated in the "Drawings" portfolio. The term for the American movement "Abstract Expressionism" was coined in 1946, making this perhaps the first true "Abstract Expressionist" portfolio in the U.S. Dixon used this etching to draw an image for one of the 2 offset lithographs he did for this portfolio. Because the portfolio was printed using an offset press, the image printed the same way it was drawn, unlike the etching, which printed in reverse of the plate.
