It is not known if Watson ever traveled to the Everglades or any place that featured flamingos, but her expert depiction of the leggy, pink-plumed birds grazing in the criss-crossed shadows of lush, draping foliage is a view that invites the viewer to step into the scene and breathe in.
Watson was born on a farm in Bandera, Texas, and was taught from an early age to care for and respect the flora and fauna of her surroundings. Even after her family’s relocation to Pennsylvania and her subsequent enrollment in art classes, her focus remained on the natural world, and her keen awareness of bold color to create mood is ever present.
