Description
This woodengraved portrait of Rembrandt was done by Fritz Eichenberger in 1984 and was included in a portfolio "Homage," 12 woodengravings that pay homage to people Eichenberger admired. Rembrandt is depicted in the foreground as an elderly man around 1669, working on an etching plate. In the background are other portraits he did of himself through the years; to the left a portrait of him leaning on a stone sill, dressed in 16th century garb, circa 1639; in the center a portrait of himself with tossled hair, circa 1630 and, to the right another portrait working on an etching plate, circa 1648. To the left is a portrait of Saskia, his wife and, to the upper right the angel that appeared to Tobias.
