Description
"Rythms" is possibly Wharton Esherick's signature woodcut. Wharton and Letty Esherick sent their children to dance camps in the Adirondacks where Letty Esherick also participated. At one point she taught dance to children as a way to bring in extra income. This inspired Wharton to do a series of dance related works. "Rythms" was also an homage to Matisse's "Dancers." The Wharton Esherick Museum in Paoll, Pennsylvania uses this image for its logo and has done two posthumous printings from the block. This impression was printed by the artist and is from the first edition. See our biography for more information on the artist.
