Description

This image is from a series of first lithographs printed and published by John Wilson's Lakeside Studios located in Lakeside, Michigan in 1969-70.

Printers Jack Lemon, who later founded Landfall Press, and Will Peterson collaborated with the noted African-American sculptor Richard Hunt to create a number of prints at Lakeside Studios. Lakeside Studios, which was founded as an artist's residency, closed in 1992.

Hunt's lithographs reflect his sculptures of the time, organic shapes resembling bones and skeletal systems. This image features a series of pyramids in the foreground. In the background Hunt uses tusche to create a swirling composition that runs the gamut from solid black to the white of the paper.

Lakeside Studios is profiled in "The Contemporary Lithographic Workshop Around the World" by Michael Knigin and Murray Zimiles, 1974: ISBN: 0-442-24480-0.
