Description
A drawing in white paint and black ink, collaged to a piece of mat board, by Fronzell L. "Doc" Spellmon (2/12/1925 - 8/24/2008). Spellmon, an African American artist from the Austin / San Antonio, Texas area. Spellmon worked as an illustrator during WWII. His mature work is considered to be that of an "outsider" artist. This drawing is Spellmon's commemoration of the June 19th, 1865 Galveston, Texas observance of the ending of slavery in the US. It is now known as Juneteenth, African-American Emancipation Day. It is now observed internationally.
