Description

Susan Allix did this book early in her distinguished career. She used a goatskin binding with decorative gilt stamp on front and gilt tiles on the spine. The binding is tight and the illustrative pages are uncut, as issued.

Allix created 27 brilliantly colored etchings and collagraphs to illustrate the text. Numbers 1-25 were handbound by the artist; 26-75 bound by Sangorsky & Sutcliffe, London. To view more images from this book, please contact the gallery.

'The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' is a book of Persian verse written by Omar Khayyam (1048 - 1131) which were "loosely translated into English" by Edward Fitzgerald. There are over 1000 verses attributed to Kahyyam, 100 of which Fitzgerald selected and first published in 1859. This book is based on the first published edition.
