Description
This is a preparatory drawing by J.W. Winkler for the etching 'The Constitutional Convention', which was included in the 1932 publication 'The Bicentennial Pageant of George Washington', (also called “The Life of George Washington) which was edited by John Taylor Arms.
The sketch is for the front right section of the etching with Washington, who was persuaded to attend the Constitutional Convention and subsequently was unanimously elected its president, seated at a table, while his colleagues discuss the ratification.
The composition is reversed in the etching and printing process.
