Description
One of Van Hoesen's early color works, this portrait print began with a drawing and a watercolor titled "Blue Cap" and "Cap." Van Hoesen did this aquatint and drypoint based on the watercolor. Though it is printed in a total edition of 25 only 10 (including this impression) were printed by the artist and Gwen Gugell in 1973 using various sizes of BFK paper. The artist added hand coloring to each impression. This state was included in an exhibition "Beth Van Hoesen" at the University of Idaho in 1973. A second printing campaign, "Cap (State II)" was printed by Mark Johnson at the Katherine Lincoln Press and finished the edition - 11/25 through 25/25 in 1985 after some re-working of the plate. This state also had added hand coloring.
