"Willows" (No. 1) was from a series of 8 intaglios of willow trees, done in Lone Pine, California, done at the end of 1923 and early 1924. The image was exhibited widely and can be found in a number of public and private collections. The plate was cancelled by the artist.

Roi Partridge printed a few trial proof of this work, which was done in a single state and appears to have printed the full edition of 101. A perfectionist, he would often destroy any prints he felt did not meet his standards, even after printing the edition.
