Trevelyan attended Atelier 17 in its beginnings, when it was first situated in Paris. There, he studied etching and the theories of the Surrealist movement before establishing his own studio in London. "Les Baux" was created long after his involvement with Hayter's workshop but still bears the stamp of its influence, in his use of multiple textures, colors, and techniques.
