Description
Rothenstein used two photo screens of Apollo 14 capsule landing on sea and world backstroke champion Karen Muir, divided by a reversed lino rainbow of colour with caustic etching, central plywood section, flanked by plywood blocks printed in blue, cream lino foundation. (Sidey, page 156, #199). Rothenstein had been working primarliy in printmaking for nearly ten years before he attended the Atelier 17 in Paris, where he learned the intaglio process and began to create color etchings. He eventually explored the possibilities in combining printmaking techniques, often in large formats. For more information on the artist, please see our biography, above.
