Description
In 1944 Zalce traveled to southeastern Mexico to learn more about the contemporary indigenous and regional Mayan cultures of the Yucatan. The result was his portfolio of eight lithographs titled "Estampas de Yucatan" which portrayed the people he met with care and dignity. This image depicts harvesting season in the flats of the Celestun, a town in northwest region of the Yucatan. It is now a wetland reserve that is home to several endangered species of fauna, including wintering flamingos, herons, and sea turtles.
