Sternberg was one of the great advocates of twentieth-century Social Realism. He worked with themes such as the nobility of labor, the despair of unemployment and the de-humanizing aspect of industrial labor. The artist’s prints and paintings addressed the labor movement, the war against fascism, and racial injustice. Sternberg’s level of dedication to the issues he used as inspiration ran parallel with his commitment to producing meaningful art.
