A selection of engravings and etchings done for the Boydell Shakespeare Folio between 1791 and 1893. John and Josiah Boydell commissioned 167 paintings illustrating the works of Shakespeare, painted by famous artists of the day including Smirke, Hamilton, Reynolds and others. The paintings were then reproduced as engravings and sold by subscription in a series of 9 volumes. The Boydells ended up all but bankrupt from the project, wich remains one of the most ambitious publishing projects in the history of printmaking.
An exhibition for beginning collectors and collectors working within a budget. The prints here all sell for under $500.00. This is not a compromise of condition or quality of the image, it's just that for reasons dictated by commerce the print does not yet demand a higher price.
This is an exhibition created to meet a particular client's requests. The works selected reflect the special interests of an individual and are assembled by the gallery to the client's requirements. Please contact the gallery if you have special requests that might be addressed by such an exhibition.
